Two-Day Live Virtual Training Program on Statement Analysis
Date: 9th – 10th May
10:00 – 16:00 London, UK (each day)
Course Overview:
Welcome to our eagerly awaited two-day live virtual training program on Statement Analysis, a course highly requested by our past students. When faced with a statement of an event, it is so important to understand its credibility, that is, “…to what degree does this statement appear to reflect an event that actually happened as stated?”
This practical and comprehensive course is designed to provide you with an in-depth understanding of Statement Analysis, giving you the knowledge, skills, understanding, and ability to begin analyzing transcriptions with a view to assessing their credibility.
There is so much information available on statement analysis techniques, though many of these have, unfortunately, minimal scientific basis. This is why EIA has chosen to focus your training on Criteria-Based Content Analysis (CBCA) and related processes, which have a strong theoretical basis and much scientific evidence to reinforce their effectiveness and give you confidence in your own conclusions.
What is Criteria Based Content Analysis (CBCA)?
CBCA is a methodology that was originally developed in Germany as part of a statement validity assessment process. Its original purpose was to provide credibility assessments of statements that had been provided by children in court cases that involved them. The method has since been refined and applied in adult cases and there is an abundance of scientific literature on its criteria and their application.
Why is understanding a statement’s credibility important?
Accuracy of your information:
The credibility or not of a statement will significantly impact the accuracy of an entire investigative process. This would apply regardless of whether the investigation is a performance review, an employment tribunal, a disciplinary process, a law enforcement or security-related investigation, or any other fact-finding process. The accuracy of the information contained in the case file is vital, and therefore, the credibility of the statements is imperative to building an accurate and complete picture of the event itself.
Credibility of Cases/Evidence:
Ensuring that you understand the credibility of statements on which your investigations are based gives YOU and your case more credibility. Multiple statements may refute or corroborate each other, and understanding how credibility can impact this is vital.
Impact on legal proceedings:
The credibility of a statement can dramatically impact the outcome of a case. A statement lacking credibility may reduce trust and be given less weight in court proceedings, while a credible statement may increase trust. Either result will influence decision-making during legal proceedings.
Trust:
In a world where we are bombarded with information and statements from individuals in positions of perceived authority, power, or personal trust, never has it been more critical to understand the credibility of the messages we receive. Whether those messages are from a politician, a witness, a business partner, a sales representative, or a leader of an organization, our ability to critically assess their message and consider how credible that message actually is allows us to make more informed decisions.
Course Objectives:
At the end of your statement analysis course, you will be able to:
